Animal Control Ordinance
As most of you are aware, the Town recently passed a new, comprehensive animal control ordinance. One of the provisions of that ordinance is the requirement to register your pet. It also greatly expands the definitions of dangerous animals and contains certain other provisions with which responsible animal owners need to be aware. The Animal Control division will be kicking off a Pet Registration and awareness program this summer at the 4th of July festivities at Little Elm park. We will be registering pets and will be available to explain the new ordinance and answer your questions regarding it between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00 PM on that date.

In addition, in an effort to make us a little more accessible to pet owners, and give us an opportunity to pass on educational information and answer questions, we would like to coordinate with each HOA representative to bring the program to your neighborhood. We can offer one or two Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. at a pre-determined location within each sub-division, such as perhaps outside the entrance to the pool area. Citizens wishing to use any of these opportunities to register their pet will only need to bring a copy of a current one year rabies certificate from their Veterinarian for us to complete the Town Registration. They do not need to have their pets present. The copy of the rabies certificate will be attached to the application and will be kept on file. Pet owners will be given a one (1) year town registration tag immediately to place on their pet’s collar or harness. The yearly cost is $4 if spayed/ neutered, $8 if not. Replacement tags will be $2 with proof of a current registration (pet owner's paper copy). [Personal checks or cash only will be accepted. Sorry, no credit cards. Exact cash will be appreciated.] Among other things, these tags will aide us in quickly returning your pet to you if it wanders away from home, is lost or stolen.

Once a registration is scheduled in your subdivision, we would like to place some small signs at the sub-division entrances on the day each is scheduled to advertise where we will be at on that particular Saturday, if that is okay with the individual HOA. We will also be utilizing the Town’s electronic sign to inform our citizens.

If you have contact info with our HOA representatives, I would appreciate it if you could pass this on to them. Persons may contact Susan Gatta by e-mail sgatta@littleelm.org or leave a message with the Police Dept. @ 214-975-0460 / Animal Control so I may get back with them.

Tentative available dates are as follows if you would like to reserve a specific Saturday depending on any activities you may already have planned.

REMEMBER, YOU DO NOT NEED TO BRING YOUR PET – ALL THAT IS NEEDED IS THE ONE YEAR RABIES CERTIFICATE FROM YOUR VET.
